The time required to read a paper is usually measured in fractions of a second, so we do not really need to talk about the problem of the speed of reading. And as the time it takes to read an email or to surf the web is very often measured in seconds, it makes little sense to talk about the problem of the speed of reading in.

How long does it take to download a movie? How long does it take to read a book? How long does it take to watch a TV show? How long does it take to listen to a song?

Here is the example of a plot of a non-parametric regression model where we need the least data points to make a prediction. In practice this model is a great prediction tool for many disciplines such as business, finance, healthcare, etc. The model is based on an assumption that the original values follow a normal distribution. This assumption is really not true, but in our daily life, this assumption makes our life easier.
All data points in the Figure 2 are generated from a random number generator which is set to be normally distributed with mean zero and variance 1. You may wonder why you need to generate data points from a random number generator. This way you avoid having to use old data in your analysis. And we will explain this further below.
In Figure 2 we try to predict the outcome of the random number generator. The non-parametric regression model uses the data points to predict the outcome by fitting a line through them. In the example shown here, the model finds a line through the points in the middle of the plot. If you try this model on a non-normal data set, you will probably not get good results. For example, the model would not be able to find the line shown in Figure 2 with a noisy data set.
